The Council’s Ormonde Resource Service at the Ormonde Centre on Newbury College campus, which provides a user-led reource supporting people with a wide range of physical disabilities, neurological conditions and acquired head injuries across West Berkshire, has set up a fitness therapy room.

This service will be offering people access to a physiotherapist and the opportunity to use specialist gym equipment, the “Motomed” (picture), which encourages continuous passive movements. The venture is enthusiastically supported by GPs who have identified the importance of safe passive exercise.

A trained physiotherapist will be setting up specific training programmes, with trained members of staff offering continued support. The object of this new venture is to deliver a facility which enables people to participate in fitness and gym activities, thus maintaining health and well-being.

Maria Herbert, Community Support Worker at the Ormonde Resource Service, says “The long-term goal is to boost the confidence of users, thus enabling them to access community facilities in the future”.
