Unique 'must be there' Newbury Disability Event on 15th April
'Rising above ourselves'
West Berkshire Disability Alliance is pleased to be sponsoring and promoting a free, ticket only, unique and exceptional event, organised by Councillor Phil Barnett, Mayor of Newbury, to be held on Wednesday 15th April at 7 for 7.15 p.m. at the United Reformed Church Main Hall, Cromwell Place, Newbury.
Internationally acclaimed hero, Fire Chief, Captain Dan Daly, who led the rescue efforts at the World Trade Centre Twin Towers Disaster ( '9 / 11' ) is also the leading light behind the success of the Achilles Project that helps disabled veterans and others to take part in wheelchair marathons and similar challenging events around the World. Dan's vision is to help those with impaired natural abilities to find new ones and reach new heights and fulfillment. His leadership and determination to improve the lives of such people are an inspiration from which we can all learn.
Following Dan's inspirational talk on 'Rising above ourselves' there will be opportunities to ask questions about taking up challenging new activities following the onset of disability. Local leaders in health and social care provision will be there to contribute to a short panel discussion. Light refreshments afterwards will liven up the networking that is always so important at such events.
We are aiming for a room packed with people either with a disability or with an interest in disability issues to maximise the opportunity to share and learn. This will be a unique opportunity to consider together our own local vision for a better future for those affected by disability.
We ask that you make room in your diary to be there, and ask that you publicise this event as widely as you can, by whatever media are available to you. Attendance is free but by ticket only, available from Newbury Town Hall. Details of how to get tickets or find out more are on the flyer.
Download the flyer here.
Dan will also be speaking at a separate event later in the week about the Twin Towers '9/11' atrocity, details available from Newbury Town Hall.
