RNIB DLA Campaign

The Royal National Institute for the Blind have launched a campaign for the MP's to sign an early day motion on the 4th December to increase the DLA mobility component for visually impaired people.
Here is a letter sent by Kevin Harvey which explains what the campaign is about;
Dear sir.
Many blind people are being cheated by not being aloud to claim the same level of benefits wheelchair users, I know that some blind people who can’t drive and in many cases find it impossible to use public transport are missing vital hospital appointments, and job opportunities because the benefit they receive doesn’t cover the cost of taxies, on a day to day basis not being able to get out independently stops many blind people from doing basic things like getting their own shopping, meeting up with friends, joining local clubs, this has a massive impact on the quality of peoples lives.
I support the royal National Institute of the Blinds campaign calling for a change to disability living allowance (D L A) a state benefit that currently allows people with other disability’s who can drive to claim it’s higher mobility rate worth £43.45p a week, people with serious sight loss are only eligible to claim the lower rate of just £16.50p. I’m writing to our MP Richard Benyon to ask for his support for the many people in his constituency who could benefit from this change, this situation is unfair and unacceptable.

Yours faithfully
K Harvey
