Housing

Supported Housing and Supporting People

Decent housing is essential to a decent life. But at some point in their lives, many people also need support to maintain their housing. People may be vulnerable through youth, learning disability, mental health problems, domestic violence, substance misuse, physical disability, old age, or a number of other reasons. Some people may benefit from living for a time in a specific supported housing scheme, such as a women's refuge or a sheltered housing scheme for older people. Others may benefit from receiving "floating support" in their own home. These kind of supported housing services have existed for many years, but there are major changes happening in the way such services are planned, paid for and monitored. These changes come under the umbrella of "Supporting People".
